The Indianapolis gallery contains photos which were published in the captureindy photo book presented by IndyStar.com in 2009. My interest in photography started during the last few years around the time I purchased my first DSLR camera. It didn't take long before I realized I had a lot to learn about the subject so I started reading and practicing. Figuring out how to make my own decisions about using different shutter speeds, apertures, iso, etc. to get pleasing images has been an eye-opening and challenging experience. I no longer let the camera make all the decisions as is typical for using a compact point-and-shoot camera. Although I have many different hobbies, photography is probably one of the safer choices for me and is currently the one that gets the most attention when I have free time to explore. So far, my favorite aspect of digital photography is using high dynamic range (HDR) techniques.
I entered my first photography contest in 2009 which was presented by IndyStar.com. This was an effort to create the photography book captureindy by publishing the best of 8,962 photographs submitted by 648 photographers. The winners were chosen by every-day people casting 753,392 votes for their favorites and by the editors at IndyStar.com. I was excited to be published in this book so early after beginning to work on developing my photography skills.
